Holden LJ Torana (1972) Colin Bond 24C HDT
In 1972 at the Hardie Ferodo Bathurst 500, torrential rain marred the start. A race that the Holden Dealer Team had prepared two GTR XU-1 LJ Torana's numbered 24C and 28C to challenge the power of Ford winner of the previous year. The drama began in the second lap when Colin Bond, driving car 24C, aquaplaned across the track and rolled down an embankment. Peter Brock, driving car 28C, eventually won the Bathurst event after six hours and 130 laps. This was Peter Brock's first Bathurst win.

Holden GTR XU1 Torana (1972)
The GTR-XU1 Torana was originally released in August of 1970 as a high performance version of the Torana GTR. Originally equipped with a 186 cubic inch engine, modified with triple Stromberg carburetors, improved exhaust system and suspension with larger disc brakes and fitted with front and rear spoilers, the XU1 immediately began to make its mark on Australian race tracks. In 1972, the LJ series was introduced with a 202 cubic inch engine now delivering 190 bhp and a top speed of 125 mph in street trim.

Holden Torana LX Hatch back (1976)
The release of the LX Torana in 1976 was the first of the three door hatch back Toranas. It was available in four, six and eight cylinder versions and a total of 8,527 vehicles were produced. The "SS" branding let bystanders know that you were driving the real thing - a Torana with high performance V8 power and proven Bathurst winning ability.

Holden Torana LX SLR5000 Sedan (1976)
At the time that the SS Torana was released, a need for a four door sedan was also required. This meant that the introduction of the SLR5000 was a necessity. Again, not unlike the SS, the bold branding signified to the onlooker that this was a serious performer, both on the street and the track alike. These were two of the meanest cars on the road in the late 70's.

Chrysler Charger 770 (1971)
The Charger was first released in August of 1971. This was a particularly successful model for Chrysler, accounting for at one time approximately 50% production in the South Australian factory. The Charger was also exported around the world, particularly to New Zealand, Japan and to the U.K. Between 1971 and 1978, when the production ceased, 31,857 units were manufactured. The model shown is a Charger 770, a top of the range model offering luxury and high performance.
