Neal Easts 32 Five-Window Coupe
Neal East, another former R&C staffer, owned the Doane Spencer roadster for many years before selling it to Bruce Meyer. One of Neals first cars was this 32 five-window coupe, created from a car he picked up for $70. By the time the finished car made the pages of Hot Rod in April 58, the coupe had already collected a case of trophies. A dropped axle and reversed rear spring lowered the car and a 3-inch chop brought it down farther. Installing the 49 Olds with a single four-barrel required relocating the steering 1 inch and cutting a notch in the framerail to miss the exhaust. A pair of 6-volt batteries was used for 12-volt starting while retaining a 6-volt electrical system.
