Hot Rod History
Lloyd Bakans 32 Three-Window Coupe
Swimsuit beauties joined Lloyd Bakans 32 coupe on the cover of Hot Rod in October 57. The Los Angelesbased coupe was one of the winningest cars of its day. The top took a 5-inch whack while the doors got the suicide treatment. Other mods include chromed nerf bars and Pontiac taillights. Underneath, the car is completely chromed and polished. Weve learned that the 54 DeSoto engine with a Weiand four-carb manifold was replaced by a Lincoln motor, and scallops were added when George Barris redid the car for Oakland in 1958. We recently saw a current photo of this coupe, owned by Tim Cunha and undergoing restoration, on the Jalopy Journal Web site.
