Bill Neumann, from Scarsdale, New York, was the editor of R&C in the early 60s and started Neuspeed in the 80s. His first major mark on the hot rodding world was with his remarkable 31 roadster, channeled 8-½ inches in front and 9-½ in the rear over Deuce rails. A Merc flathead was backed up by a 48 Merc transmission and 3.27:1 rear gears. The red 31, one of the earliest cars to feature billet components, won a bunch of show awards and drag races and showed up in several magazines, including Hot Rod in July 58, Car Craft in October 61, and R&C in September 62. The car changed hands a few times since Bill sold it in 1963, and its whereabouts are currently unknown.
