Went to the Portabello Road Markets in Notting Hill. I managed to pick up very early what was going to transpire and arranged a meeting place with the girls, so off they went as I took up my vantage spot on the steps of a Dentist Surgery. This was an ideal location to see all of humanity pass by, well that's what it felt like. Over the next 2 hours I chatted with an Aussie husband in a similar predicament, took photos for several Japanese tourist and was propositioned by a lovely young lass from Kent who wanted to take me for a drink, serious!
We wanted to see a live show in the West End so we then took the bus up to Leicester Square as we knew of a place selling half price theatre tickets. Found the square and every ticket box was offering half price tickets! But from the Lonely Planet Guide we had the tip that they add a hefty 20% as a booking fee, there no sign of the ticket box with the clock tower, asked a few locals but no joy, then Jude asked this old boy and he gave us the full story and where to go, still took a little bit of work but we got there and got tickets to The Wizard of Oz at the Palladium for a matinee. We had to walk through Picadilly Circus up Regent St to Old Marylbone Rd, never seen so many people out on the street.
The show was great and featured Michael Crawford as the wizard. Loved the sets and my favorite was the Tin Man.
From there we went across to Carnaby St, the girls shopped a bit then we had tea in a cafe just off the Street, then back to Pickadilly now all lit up, then back to Earls Court on the train.
Well we did it, hottest October day - ever! 29.5° |
