Goodbye Venice, see you again! To get to Cinque Terre we had to travel on 3 different trains.
On the first train at 9:20. for about 2.5 hours, only just made our next train at Vin with a minute to spare, another hour and another train only just getting to the platform in time again.
Changing trains is a big deal especially when traveling in a group of 14. The low platform height make getting on and off difficult then you have to hide all that luggage somewhere and it takes so long for people to find their seat and stow their stuff. But the worst part is all the stations have multiple platforms connected by a subway with steps! Lugging those suitcases up and down is exhausting. Plus today was 33°!
So by the time we arrived about 3 pm and stowed our stuff in the 1st story apartment it was definitely time for a swim, the water was beautiful.
Montereso is totally different to what I had imagined. The last stretch in is all through a series of tunnels and then you get a brief flash of the deep blue sea and brilliant sunshine. The town is built right on the steeply rising hills from the sea.
The train pops in and out of the tunnel for each of the four towns. Absolutely beautiful!
Tonight we just had pizzas in town as we were starving having missed lunch because of the trains. Karen went to the next town with some of the group for a pesto making course. |
