Day 7 Chiang Mai

Thursday 2013/05/09

Trip to Elephant Nature Park. This was recommended by Tony and Max. We really had to search it out as most of the agents didnt offer it. But our guy at the little resteraunt down the road came through again. Picked up at 8, it was a good hour out of town after we picked up the rest of the bus. Our driver was very fast, and even Judys death stare didnt deter him. Once we got there it was like the scene from Jurassic Park. You passed this big wall to another land inside. They have about 70 elephants all roaming free to do what ever they want. But they know where to come for a feed. So as long as we had something in our hand they were our best friends. The park is a refuge for retired and injured working elephants as they get no protection from the government so there were a couple that were blind and one that had had a broken leg. No show or performances at this place you just hot to walk around pat them, wash them and feed them and it was fantastic. They also had 300 dogs that they rescued from the floods in Bangkok a couple of years ago. Many have now been returned to their homes. Great place, great day.
