Thailand 2012 - Day 9
Day 9 Koh Samui
Saturday 2012/04/07
I hope you all observed Good Friday and did not eat red meat. Because we are in a mainly Bhudist/Muslim/Hindu country you realize that we are exempt. And I just remembered I didn't have bacon for breakfast yesterday, so maybe all those years of Sunday school did rub off after all!
Breakfast at the beachside again, poached eggs & bacon feature heavily.
10 am we set off on our own privately chauffeured round the island tour. It was really good and the driver had good English and spotted all the highlights. I cant see out of the minibuses and you never know what jerks your gunna have to share with. First stop was the look out across the bay from where we were staying, then to see the mummified monk (what a joke) he was even wearing Ray Bans.
The next stop was the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks which were unfortunately shaped like some certain parts of the male and female anatomy. Enough said about that.
Then up to the elephant safari where Grandma and Jude got their photo taken with a lion cub. Grandma is now happy, she got to cuddle a lion, all the dogs and cats on Samui are safe from the crazy woman who wants to feed them.
Our next stop was waterfall #2, not as far to walk to but not as big either, we stayed there for a while as it was a bit cooler under the tree canopy.
From there it was across to the west side of the island to the capital and where the main port was.
Last stop was the big Buda which we saw from the plane on the way in. By this stage it was bloody hot 35° and we were all thinking about the pool back at the resort.
We were away for the best part of 4.5hrs and only travelled 56km's
It was banana lounges beachside for the rest of the afternoon. The sea is so warm and the pool is not far behind.
Then a short walk up the beach for tea.
PS we've been told that Thai new year is the 13th and it's called a water festival, with lots of water thrown around and where we are staying in Bangkok is right in the middle of it..
