Second place for Hot Rods at Pebble Beach this year went to this devilishly numbered, aerodynamic looking streamliner. It was the fastest single-engine car on the salt in 1952, when Art Chrisman achieved 238 mph at Bonneville using a 331-cubic-inch Chrysler Hemi (the swoopy-shaped car would later break more records using a 425-cubic-inch GMC diesel engine). Chet Herbert designed the car using a 1/10th scale model in the Cal Tech wind tunnel, which marked the first time wind tunnels were used for streamliners. |
