Day 15 - day 8 of Highlights of Italy tour - Rome

Saturday 17th September 2011

We all slept in as we were exhausted from all the walking yesterday and met as a group for breakfast at 9. Lots of stories and banter. Then we said our final goodbyes. We were very fortunate to have such a great group of people to tour with and such an efficient and flexible tour guide.

  • Brad and Judith (from Pennsylvania) were hiring a car and heading for south of Italy
  • Rinda (Sydney) was going to Paris
  • Marin (Sydney) was going to Lake Como
  • Maryanne and Shirley (Melbourne) were staying on for a couple of days
  • Andrew and Lauren (Essex UK) were going back to London to start work on Monday.

So it was time to catch our breath and do a bit of housekeeping, we found a laundry and there was a Internet place two doors down, 10 cents per minute to a landline and 30 to a mobile so we rang the kids.

Hotel Bianca is caught in a time warp, very 50's decore and the little lift is something from an early American movie. There's one guy who easily double for Manuel from faulty towers, he had a go at me for pressing the button to call the lift too many times, he also does breakfast. Big pots of rich dark coffee and warm milk and he's only to happy to bring out seconds.

Had a play with Skype and added Deb and Rhiannon and got onto Rhiannon almost straight away, spoke to her and Laura, so Jude's had a good catch up now. Drinks at 5, then to a restaurant around the corner followed by a walk in the cool of the evening. A great well deserved do nothing day.
