On the train to Pisa at 9, past a few white marble quarries along the way, evidently this is where David came from, arrived at about 10:30. The others in the group didn't want to see the Leaning Tower so we stowed our bags at the station and caught a bus out.
What an experience! 70 animated Italians all trying to get on the bus at the same time and we got caught up in it. As I was getting on the bus I felt someone touch me on the thigh I checked my pocket straight away and my wallet was gone so I started yelling out "where's my wallet" Tony had noticed a guy pushing on with us next to me and grabbed his arm with that my wallet miraculously appeared on the floor I only had time to pick it up as we were pushed down the bus but I soon eyeballed the guy but then the bus stopped and he got off. We reckon the bus driver recognized him as well but did not say anything. Then when we got off the bus Karen had her own story, seems the guy next to Tony was getting his rocks off on this little Japanese girls bag, having a wonderful time, but the bus was that crowded Tony and I weren't even aware of it.
The location of the Tower and it's surrounds was nothing like what I expected, it's right in a built up area with all these other historical and period buildings around the square in which it sits. Jude did the art gallery we did the historical bit. Well worth the effort and hassle. The bus trip back to the station was much more sedate thank you very much.
Then we caught the train to Firenze and Judith meet us at the station and took us to our accommodation. Still very hot!
Jude and I stayed at the hostel tonight while the others had another walk and tea in town. |
