Keywords are what the search engines, that will list your site, use to catagorise your pages. These keywords aren't necessarily seen or used in your page rather they can be added a META TAGS in the header of the HTML document. The idea is to use the keywords that suit your site or page and are most likely to be used by visitors in the various search engines.
Test your keywords before using them. Some search engines are programmed to ignore certain common words. Take each of your keywords and type them one at a time into the major search engines and see what the response is. A keyword with a 0 response is one that is ignored. Also check that the keywords you plan to use are returning the sites that your site should be being 'stacked up' against. If you don't find similar sites when you search for your own site perhaps your keyword selection needs refining.
